Although the embroidery
foot is on, this photo was actually taken
with the machine in sewing mode. That's why
the needle is centered. It still does
embroidery from the left needle position.
The needle plate reflects the heritage of
the 6500P, in that it has two screws.
Notice the extra feed
dogs at the very front, which were removed
for the 6500P. They allow for feeding the
fabric from the very edge, and provide the
final 2 points in Janome's famous
7-Point Feed System. It's what
allows Janome machines to stitch 8 layers of
denim to a tissue, flawlessly and without
the need for a walking foot, tension, or
pressure adjustments.
The now-standard quilting
angle lines are inscribed on the plate, for
easy and accurate piecing. Measurements on
the right side of the foot will help to make
up for the loss of the Cloth Guide. Due to
the new embroidery arm system, it's no
longer possible to have this feature. Just
above and left of the rightmost screw you'll
see a threaded hole. You can attach a
sliding fabric guide here. This type of
guide is packaged with the Quilter's
Companion series of machines, and
has been around for years.
It's very hard to see in
this picture, but inside the bobbin case is
the familiar "flipper" mechanism that is
used in the 9000, 9500, 9700, 10000, and
10001 to measure the amount of bobbin thread
remaining. This same flipper is used in the
6500P, but not to check the bobbin. In that
machine it holds the bobbin still while the
thread is being cut. Here in the 11000, it
performs both functions, so you can have a
bobbin sensor and a thread cutter.
Directly behind the
needle plate you can see an L-shaped piece
with the embroidery arm parked against it.
This piece is removable for free arm sewing,
as is the front-mounted accessory box.
